A Splendid Day in Shantou!!

We had a wonderful day on Wednesday. One of the very important missions for us was to visit Clare's orphanage. With much help from Rebecca Breeden with Great Wall we were able to secure permission to go for a visit. Amy Eldridge made arrangements for an interpreter with one of her good friends, Mui. On our way from Guangzhou to Shantou (a five hour drive), Clare was so cute. She looked at the newspaper in the car; then we stopped at a McDonalds on the way to Shantou. One of the special things we did for Clare was to get her a camera so she could record "her version" of her homeland. She wanted to take a picture of Mama by Ronald McDonald. When we arrived in Shantou we were greeted by Mui (shown with Brycie above), and treated by Mui and the vice director of Clare's orphanage to a fabulous lunch. Clare got to spend some time with her very best friend, Fen. The bottom picture shows Clare and her two friends, Fen and Chang. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped us complete our mission.

I love the camera idea! How wonderful that you brought her back to the orphanage and werea bel to experience that with her and meet her friends. I'm sure that helped heal wounds that she inevitably has and helped with the transition from her old life to her new one. You are already amazing parents to this precious girl- thinking of what will best help her. God is good!

Mui and I have had several conversations, it is great to put a face with that name. Dear Jesus please let Fen's family go soon! How hard it must have been for her to say goodbye to Qi. What a great idea to give her a camera... you are so smart! Enjoy the rest of the trip......and don't forget to post.....I think between Amy and Karen and I we have hit re-fresh about every 30 minutes (around the clock because Amy and I don't sleep)

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have wanted to see these two girls adopted and now we are half way there. This is such an amazing, amazing thing that these two girls are going to have/now have families. I am so thankful for these families for wanting and loving these two older girls. As the adoptive mom of two older girls adopted at nearly 9 and 9 3/4 (one from Shantou)....it is such a wonderful blessing to me and I hope these girls will be the same to you. Thank you for loving these girls.
